Very good article about software defined data centres.
Depending on who you talk to, ‘software-defined’ is either an overused marketing buzzword or the most significant technological advancement in the data storage industry of late. Regardless, IT managers are acutely aware that the way they manage their data centres is shifting from hardware-driven management to software-centric tools. Recent surveys reflect this shift: two thirds of CIOs in Northern America and Europe plan to expand their use of software-defined data centre technologies this year according to an April 2016 survey, while spending on software-defined data centres is forecast to increase by 14% in 2016. Indeed, Gartner estimates that by 2020 75% of organisations will need to implement a software-defined data centre in order to support the OpEx approach and hybrid clouds they need as part of agile digital business initiatives.
